Is Trump bring realism back?

Donald Trump: Who He Is and What He Stands For - The New York Times

With his toughening views on trade, supporting regulation and protectionism it seems trump is bringing back realist values in the international political world.

Realism values the state and put its above all else, believing that the world is in a state of anarchy. It does not support interdependence or any form of reliance on other countries as that would then leave its own nation in a more vulnerable position, most western democracies support neoliberalism as there are mutual benefits in doing so. Trumps tariffs and endorsement of protectionism for this reason is unprecedented. He believes to be doing it benefit the American economy, although it seems to have not done much to improve it and made it a less desirable trade partner for other countries. The video below breakdown the debate on tariffs, as they increase the cost of products in the country but also allows for domestic companies to be more visible and meet new trading partners
